Code of Conduct

Solar Second Life is for everyone who wants to keep solar working and handle it safely. This Code of Conduct applies in training sessions, at events, in our community feed and in our WhatsApp and Telegram groups. Every trainee, community member, volunteer and member of staff agrees to it.

Respect everyone

• Treat everyone with respect, whatever their gender, age, disability, religion, ethnicity or background.
• No harassment, bullying, threats or insults, in person or online.
• No sexual harassment. This includes unwanted comments, messages, touching or advances.
• Women are a core part of this trade and of this project. Make room for everyone to learn and to speak.

Stay safe

• Follow the facilitator's safety instructions and wear the safety equipment you are given.
• Never open, cut or handle a damaged battery unless a facilitator says it is safe.
• Do not come to a session under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Look after the tools and equipment, and return shared tools at the end of each session.

Be honest

• Give true information on the register and in your posts.
• Only claim repairs you did yourself.
• Tell owners truthfully whether their equipment can be revived.

Protect people's privacy

• Do not share anyone's phone number, address or photo without their permission.
• Do not film or photograph people at sessions without asking them first.

Keep the community useful

• Stay on topic: solar, repair, safe handling and the work around them.
• No spam, scams or repeated advertising.
• No hate speech, and no political or religious campaigning.

If this Code is broken

We may give a warning, hide or remove posts, suspend an account for 7 or 30 days, remove someone from training, or ban them permanently. Serious incidents may be reported to the police.

If something worries you

Tell a facilitator, or report a concern in confidence. You do not have to give your name. Reports are seen only by our safeguarding lead and deputy.
